Tire Pyrolysis

Our system for the pyrolysis of tires and other rubber-based materials are characterized in particular by its profitability. There are no previous preparations necessary, as there are during shredding or fractionating of tires. The tire pyrolysis system is modular and can be expanded indefinitely. Each unit take 1000kg tires per reactor, which are treated in a 4-6 hour process. Thus, the daily output of a reactor is 4 tons. The follow-up is also modular, so that each customer can choose in our tire pyrolysis system to what degree he wants to finish treat the recovered products. From a ton of tires following products are obtained:

  • Carbon Black: approx 380kg
  • pyrolysis oil: approx 300kg
  • Steel: approx 170kg
  • gas: approx 150kg (at about 40% methane content)

Overview of the tire pyrolysis advantages

  1. Scrap tires are cleaned and placed or stacked inside the Reactor as whole tires, un-shredded.
  2. Reactor is placed inside Furnace, after evacuation process of oxygen, the thermal process starts.
  3. The tire pyrolysis process inside Reactor initiates at contents and will be Homogeneously heated.
  4. Than the depolymerization / degassing process runs 3-5 hours depending on the ingredients.
  5. During the tire pyrolysis process the gas by-products are generated & flows through a special heat exchanger for hydrocarbons, it separates the pyrolysis gas from the oil, called condensation.
  6. The non-condensable pyrolysis gas will flow through a Gas-Scrubber for desulfurization and cleaning, like a special filtration and thereafter pumped in a Gas pressure tank for storage.
  7. From this pressurized Tank the Gas flows to a Generator for electrical energy generation, or alternatively is sold and pumped into a Gastank on a Truck.
  8. The condensable Hydrocarbon is collected as pyrolysis oil and available for filtration and than useable as heating oil, to generate power or Hydrogen production or making fresh carbon black.
  9. After the end of whole tire pyrolysis process, the reactor is removed from oven. A new batch is placed inside. Due to the modular design, a production plant can be built easely for any desired capacity.
  10. The pyrolyzed tires as composite batch (Carbon char and Steel wires), will be transfered to the discharge station where the steel is separated from the carbon char.
  11. The cleaned carbon char is now transfered via bucket conveyor to a Milling/Grinding section.
  12. After grinding process the CB will be transfered for finishing process to pelletizing equipment.
  13. Finally the pelletized CB (pellets/granule) will be packaged into Jumbo bags or 20 kg sacks ready for selling and/or temporary storage.
  14. The entire work steps and processing is done without any harmful pollution to the environment.

Differences / Benefits of tire pyrolysis versus rubber granulation

  1. Pyrolysis means 100% recycling of tires: All high valuable raw materials are extracted smoothly.
  2. Tire Pyrolysis harvests 4 “Green“ products: Carbon Blacks (CB), Steel, Oil, and high caloric combustible Gas, which can be used for generating electrical engergy, heat, steam, or hydrogen.
  3. The international market price of quality virgin CB for rubber applications (made from oil) is approx. 1.500 USD/t and a huge demand already exists (8 million ton p.a. worldwide). Rubber granules has limited demand and a market price of 100 to 200 USD/t and it is difficult to sell.
  4. Tire Pyrolysis delivers clean steel after processing and sells for regular scrap price approx. 300 US$/t, steel from rubber shredding/grinding has still too much rubber attached what the profit let decrease.
  5. Tire Pyrolysis harvests Oil & Gas adding substantially higher revenue of approx. 350 US$/t
  6. Tire Pyrolysis processing plant need very minor maintenance in comparison with the heavy Shredding Machines who makes rubber granules. Costly knifes etc. to be renewed frequently.
  7. The world Oil prices will increase but recycled CB will have stable prices so it's price advantage is even higher in the future. Same economic point applies to the recycled steel, oil and gas.
